February 21, 2009 - Investing in your marriage and relationships through the viewing of FIREPROOF

 FIREPROOF

Lt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story. After a decade of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare.
Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke.

COME OUT ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21 @ 6:00pm

Devonshire will be hosting a movie night featuring FIREPROOF.  If you haven't seen it yet, here's your chance and if you have seen it, we know you will want to see it again. This movie is for everyone, whether you are in a marriage, a co-worker, a parent, a teenager, or basically, a human being. All of us have relationships where it is tempting to turn away when the going gets tough or lash out. This movie does a great job showing how real love works.

We saw FIREPROOF tonight with some friends at church. I knew from talk that it would be good, but I didn't realize that I would be so affected by it. I cried through the whole thing. I thought my marriage was solid and good. Now I realize that I could do so much more to make it great. I know that God is number one, and He will make everything great. There were a few parts that I wouldn't have liked my children to see, but over-all the movie was excellent. I will be one of the first to get it when it comes in next week. Please, if you have not seen it, go see it with your spouse. We also got the 40 day Love Dare book with it, so that we could make sure we both will strive to be the best that we can be, for better or for worse, and all in between, but together.

This is a great movie to watch! I watched this movie a month ago, and the Lord spoke to me in a powerful way! This movie showed me the illustration that "Love covers a multitude of sins!" It increased my trust in God for the future. I am not yet married, and this film helped me realize that there is a great difference between a wedding and a marriage, a difference between falling in love and living a loving relationship, and how important God's intevention is in every part of a Christian's life. My church is going to show this movie on January 25, and I am looking forward to watching it again! God bless you all.

I'm 18 years old and I'm not married, but seeing FIREPROOF has had an impact on me. It showed me that the only way to have a successful marriage (or any relationship, when you think about it) is to have God at the center. If you haven't seen this movie, I strongly suggest it. I also suggest that you watch "Flywheel" and "Facing the Giants" (two other movies by the same people who made FIREPROOF.

My story has already been posted at an earlier date by a friend, but I really wanted to say more. My husband and I separated two days before he saw this movie. My husband had been struggling for years with many of the same issues as Caleb. The only reason he saw the movie was because the trailer kept freezing on the train track scenes, and he thought it was an action movie. God caught his attention through this movie, and later that night on his knees and in tears, he became a Christian. He begged me to see the movie. I refused. He did The Love Dare on me, and I reacted the same as the wife in the movie. However, the second time through the book, I responded. We reunited on December 8, and I saw the movie two days later. Wow! It has been amazing. I asked him how many times he will do the book. He said forever. He is almost done with the 3rd go around. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to our Savior. My husband, children, and I thank you. God bless!

My wife and I have had our ups and downs in our marriage. For the past four years, we have really made an effort to grow closer with each other and God. We went to see FIREPROOF on a date night and came away knowing that we could do more. After seeing the movie, we knew that during Lent, we needed to step up and introduce this to our church. We have decided to do a course on Fireproofing Your Marriage. After an initial talk to a few people, we found that they all feel that they need some time to focus on just their marriage, both those who have been married for quite a while and also those who have not been married very long. I feel that God can heal couples and show them that if they have a healthy relationship together, they will have healthy relationships elsewhere. In turn, this will help to make our church healthy.

Come out to this inspiring, life-changing movie that is full of action, humor, suspense, and God’s principles. Invite your friends, neighbors, family, and co-workers.
Bring the kids along too! There will be child care for infants to 3 years old and activities for kids 4-6 & kids 7-11 and some very yummy refreshments.
